New Head of MSc in Data Science Programme
Associate Professor Luca Maria Aiello will be replacing Barbara Plank as Head of MSc in Data Science from March 1.

Luca joined ITU in February 2021. Before that he worked for almost 10 years in industrial data science research at Yahoo! Labs in Barcelona and at Nokia Bell Labs in Cambridge, UK. Through his background he has gained a first-hand experience of the typical challenges of working in diverse data science teams, both in industry and academia.

He says:” The Master in Data Science has been kicked-off brilliantly by Barbara Plank and collaborators, achieving a great turnout of applications. I am lucky to step into the role of Head of Study Programme for such a successful programme, and I look forward to strengthening its offer to make ITU graduates even more competitive on the international job market”

Open Online Lecture by Professor Karen Yeung 
The Center for Digital Welfare is proud to invite distinguished researchers to the IT-University of Copenhagen for a research-based lecture series exploring diverse aspects of the current, and future, digitalized welfare society.

The CDW presents Professor Karen Yeung from Birmingham Law School & School of Computer Science to give the third lecture of the series, titled 'Live facial recognition technology as the new Thalidomide? Navigating the challenges of meaningful and effective AI governance'.

ITU Student Won the Best Student Paper Award
ITU Student Mathias Bastholm (middle) won the best student paper award in 11th International Conference on Pattern Recognition Applications and Methods (ICPRAM 2022).

He won together with his supervisors Dr. Stella Graßhof (left) and Associate Professor Sami S. Brandt (right).

The paper was entitled “Neural Network-Based Human Motion Smoother”.
 
Boardgame Night -  Friday, March 4
Do ypu want play board games, but have no one to play with? Or are you and your friends looking for something to do to get away from all the homework? Or do you just like playing board games?

Come to 2a12-14 on Friday, February 18 from 16:00-23:00, where we will set up a ton of board games for you to play to your heart's content.

As an added bonus, we also have snacks sponsored by SAF.

Everyone is welcome to join, and you can either join on your own or come as a group.
 
BreakIT: Paper Plane Launch Mechanisms
BreakIT designs and builds contraptions to launch paper airplanes!

We will use rubber bands, ramps, electric motors or pneumatic accumulators. We try various plane models and measure distances. It is all science!

Everybody is welcome.

Workshop is facilitated by Rodrigo Moreno Garcia (REAL Lab).

When and where: March 3, 14.00 at REAL Lab, ITU 5A20-22.

At Python Study Group (PSG) we learn about programming through the coding language Python and have fun coding.  

The first meet-up will be this Tuesday, March 1 at 17.30-19.30 in room 5A14-16.
